Biography
Beata Javorcik is a world-renowned economist serving as Chief Economist at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), where she provides strategic economic leadership and thought-leading analysis on macroeconomic trends, investment flows, and development policy in emerging and transition economies.
She is on leave from the University of Oxford, where she holds a Statutory Professorship in Economics — the first woman in this position — and is a Fellow of All Souls College. Her academic work focuses on international trade, foreign direct investment, services liberalization, and the economic impacts of globalization, with research published in top journals in economics and international policy.
Prior to Oxford, Professor Javorcik worked at the World Bank in Washington, DC, providing research, policy advice, and lending support for developing and transition economies. She also directs the International Trade Programme at the Centre for Economic Policy Research (CEPR) and serves on the Executive Committee of the Royal Economic Society.
Javorcik holds a PhD in Economics from Yale University and a BA in Economics (Summa Cum Laude) from the University of Rochester, and her expertise continues to influence global conversations on trade, investment, and economic reform.
